Marguerite (Sabine Azema) is a woman with wild red hair with a penchant for buying shoes, but as she leaves one particular shop, her purse is stolen.
Georges Palet (Andre Dussollier) is an elegant, married older man who finds Marguerite's wallet where the thief has tossed it, and instantly the seeds of romance are planted. He goes through her identification, looks at her picture and imagines things about her. Georges begins to wonder about who Marguerite might be and what her life might be like. He'll phone her. He'll return the wallet. Anything could happen.
When Marguerite phones Georges at home to thank him for finding her wallet, Georges' yearning increases.
