Based on the book The Taking of The Stone of Destiny by Ian Hamilton QC, this true story takes place in 1950s Glasgow as Scotland fails to establish its own parliament once again. Charles Martin Smith writes and directs and is possibly better known as Terry 'the Toad' Fields in American Graffiti.
Charlie Cox (Stardust) stars as the young patriot Hamilton, who vows to salvage national pride by returning the 'Stone of Destiny', a symbol of Scottish sovereignty, to its rightful place. Trouble is, the talismanic stone has been housed in Westminster Abbey under watchful English eyes since 1296.
Robert Carlyle, Billy Boyd (Lord of the Rings), Peter Mullan (Trainspotting), Brenda Fricker and 24's Kate Mara star in this heist caper which may sound fanciful but, according to the real Hamilton's memoir, is absolutely true.
Background: the Stone of Destiny, aka the Stone of Scone, aka the Coronation Stone, is an important piece of Scottish heritage captured in 1296 by King Edward I and set into the Coronation chair on which English monarchs were crowned, supposedly as a reminder of Britain's power.
