Set in Edwardian England where upper lips are always stiff and men from the Colonies are not entirely to be trusted, Peter O'Toole stars as Fisk Senior, who has little time or affection for his son. Jeremy Northam stars as Fisk Junior, who goes with his father to visit an eccentric Indian, which starts them on a strange journey. Eventually Fisk Senior finds his heart. Art Malik (True Lies) stars as Swami Nala Prash.

Sam Neill stars as Dean Spanley with support from Bryan Brown and Judith Parfitt.
