Jay Roach (Meet the Parents) directs Paul Rudd as Tim Conrad, an underling financial analyst at a private equity firm who is dangerously close to having it all. He's a bright, good-looking and on the verge of proposing to his long-time girlfriend, Julie (Stephanie Szostak) and his business acumen at Fender Finances has been noticed by the head of the company, Lance Fender (Bruce Greenwood). In fact he's been asked to attend the upcoming monthly dinner at Fender's imposing mansion.

However, there is a catch to this invitation - Fender asks each colleague to bring an idiot to dinner. At first, Tim thinks this is a bit odd, but just as he's about to bag the whole banquet, a gift from heaven falls in his lap... actually he steps in front of Tim's car.

Steve Carell stars as IRS employee/amateur taxidermist Barry Speck who sets off a tornado of destruction in Tim's near-perfect life - torpedoing a multi-million dollar deal and Tim's romance with Julie all in less than 24 hours. Thanks to Barry, Tim's bright and promising future is heading for disaster.
