This dramatic comedy based on Mordecai Richler's semi-autobiographical novel stars James Woods as Montreal writer Joshua Shapiro whose life is crumbling around him.

Joshua reflects on his marriage and his unorthodox life as the son of a small-time gangster and stripper. When he was old enough he left this life and forged a prosperous writing career. Now, his British socialite wife has deserted him, his reputation smeared and he's being blackmailed but that's just the start of his troubles.

Funny, touching, with great performances from Woods and Arkin.
