Synopsis
AFI winner Fred Schepisi directs Steve Martin as C.D. Bales in this hilarious comedy inspired by Cyrano de Bergerac, about a man with the heart of a great lover, the soul of a poet and the nose for trouble.
A friend, Chris (ER's Rick Rossovich), convinces Bales to ghost-write a letter on his behalf to beautiful newcomer Roxanne (Daryl Hannah). Roxanne proceeds to fall in love with the author of the passionate letters, believing they come from Chris, while C.D. remains certain that she could never love a remarkable face like his.
The very talented Michael J. Pollard, Shelley Duvall and Fred Willard (Best in Show) provide support.
Trivia: Steve Martin's screenplay is based on the play "Cyrano de Bergerac" (1950) by Edmond Rostand. C.D. Bales has the same initials as Cyrano; Bales is challenged to tell 20 nose jokes, he goes on to tell 25 in total.
