The Coen Brothers lend their unique blend of dark comedy to this surreal thriller which swept the Cannes Film Festival and garnered three Oscar nominations.
The brilliant John Turturro stars as Barton Fink; a blocked, celebrated playwright holed up in a rancid hotel in Hollywood to write a low budget screenplay who gets involved with another man's mistress (Judy Davis) and a deceptively genial insurance salesman, Charlie (John Goodman). As the clock ticks and the temperature rises, Fink's life spins out of control.
Also featured are Steve Buscemi, Jon Polito and Tony Shalhoub.
Trivia: the first film to win all three major awards (Palme D'or, Best Director, and Best Actor) at the Cannes Film Festival; it was unanimously chosen for the Palme D'or; the wallpaper in Barton's room only peels when John Goodman's character is in or has just left Barton's room; the Coen brothers cite as a major influence for Barton Fink the 1976 Roman Polanski film The Tenant.
