It's the classic scam, and Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes are just the men to do it. They're an odd couple of asphalt hustlers angling for the big score, but it's the game of life that has them beat.

Less mythical in scope than Bull Durham but just as compelling, Ron Shelton's hoops drama belongs to its battle-rapping protagonists. When they're not psyching out the opposition they're ripping strips off each other in one of the edgiest buddy-riffs in modern cinema.

Rosie Perez, as Harrelson's Jeopardy-bound better half, is drop dead amazing.
