Ron Howard and Cindy Williams star as high school sweethearts experiencing the first turmoil in their relationship as the summer before he leaves for college comes to an end, which is further complicated by the time he spends with his friends and her need to feel independent.

The support cast includes Paul Le Mat, Candy Clark and Charles Martin Smith. Richard Dreyfuss and Harrison Ford shine in their first major roles.

Produced by Francis Ford Coppola, the film was nominated for five Oscars, including Best Picture.

The excellent soundtrack includes The Big Bopper, Fats Domino, The Platters, Buddy Holly, Bill Haley & the Comets and Johnny Burnette.
