As the story transferred from novel to the screen, Tim Winton's cloudstreet maintained its otherworldliness through a visual depiction of magic realism. Several scenes in the film depict the inclination of the characters - including the house - through magic realism.

It is through this genre, that Tim Winton and Director Matthew Saville lead us into a parallel world where hallways sway and rattle like train carriages, where bodies glow iridescently and where the night sky and the river merge into one abounding bath of stars. Captivated by Tim Winton's cloudstreet world, we readily accept this otherworldliness – as it is somehow enchantingly alluring and completely believable.

The Visual Effects Production Team was responsible for creating the cloudstreet visual effects to support the magic realism. Stylistic, impressionistic effects were created with a close relationship to enhancing the cloudstreet reality.
