Synopsis
Created by Steve Tesich and Peter Yates (Breaking Away) William Hurt stars as a janitor named Daryll Deever, who becomes infatuated with a local television reporter named Tony Sokolow (Sigourney Weaver).

When a murder occurs at Deever's building, the reporter begins to spend some time in the area, trying to mine facts from anyone willing to talk. Daryll, who was the first to discover the corpse, begins to imply that he knows more than he's let on, though he doesn't actually know much, as a ploy to gain Sokolow's favour.

The two begin to investigate the murder further, but the more they find out, the more their lives are jeopardised. All the while, the reporter's boyfriend (Christopher Plummer) is becoming more and more interested in Deever, thinking the janitor's knowledge might be valuable.
