In this swash-buckling adventure Robert Carlyle stars as highwayman Will Plunkett whose partner is killed by General Chance (Rebus's Ken Stott) in 18th century England.

Will decides to team up with James Macleane (Jonny Lee Miller), a disgraced nobleman, whose connections to people of wealth complement Plunkett's skill for stealing it. But, during a robbery of Lord Gibson's stagecoach, Macleane falls instantly in love with his cunning daughter, Rebecca (Liv Tyler).

Now thief must woo nobility, all the while keeping a step ahead of General Chance - another man after Rebecca's heart!
